walnut tree story
This came from a tree I had to cut down because it had been severely damaged in a windstorm. When I first cut the tree down, the wood was fairly normal looking boring wood. It was walnut though, so I saved some and put it in my back yard next to the barn. I got busy with other projects and forgot about it for a while. When I finally got to it i realized that it had been sitting right where the rain and snow would drip off the roof. So, the wood got really wet, and then would dry, etc. some of it was too rotten to use, but the several pieces that I could still use turned out spectacular!
