This hand turned wooden bowl is made from a Utah Poplar. The tree was quite sick and dying. My friend had it cut down before it fell down in a storm and damaged anything. She saved a few pieces for me so I could make something out of her beloved tree. This bowl is the last piece left from what she gave me.
This beautiful large bowl has unique grain patterns and a partial natural edge. It is sealed with a coat of resin to reinforce the softer Poplar wood. It could be used for a salad. However, it is so unique that it is a statement piece. It is a gallery quality piece that’s perfect for a coffee table or an entry way table.
The Lombardy Poplar has been planted frequently in Utah because it is a fast growing tree. It has a narrow upright for canopy and is seen lining driveways and fences. Unfortunately it is disease and insect prone when it is stressed.
