This hand turned wooden bowl came from a Chinese Elm tree in Salt Lake City, UT that my next door neighbors were cutting down. I helped them cut the tree down and I grabbed a few pieces to turn into bowls. Even though the Chinese Elm is often considered a junk tree, the grain is surprisingly pretty.
The Chinese Elm tree (Ulmus pumila) is a fast growing tree (thus interesting grain patterns) and seeds itself very vigorously. They grow easily in Salt Lake Valley however they are quite prone to breakage and insect damage.
This medium sized hand turned bowl is perfect as natural home decor. It is a great bowl for storing jewelry, keys, change, or a wallet. This bowl is NOT food safe.
